Lacoste: the trendy alligator of the fashion world.
Lacoste, the French fashion brand that has been the beacon of evolution in design for over 7 decades. Established in 1933, Lacoste has come a long way since its initial tennis shirt design collection. The brand now operates a large number of boutiques worldwide, as well as has its presence in leading high-end shops such as Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Belk and Halls, offering a wide array of clothing and accessories for men and women.
Nicknamed "the Crocodile" because of his tenacity on the courts, René Lacoste, the famous tennis champion, had the idea in the late 1920s, to embroider a crocodile on the shirts he designed, thus creating the first polo shirt, and the first logo to be visibly displayed on a garment.
While it expands across borders, Lacoste interestingly does not manufacture its products; it only takes care of maintaining its brand name, image, style and innovating new ideas for the products. Lacoste outsources its production part to manufacturers or licensed companies. But Lacoste owns the entire brand name and can control all of its products. Another important point which should be mentioned is that, Lacoste is a family business. In fact, till this date Lacoste’s family owns a major part of the company.
